Joseph “Joe” Henke

Joseph “Joe” Henke age 64 of Sunol, NE and formerly of Dalton, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 21, 2018 in Nebraska City, NE with his loved ones by his side.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. in the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel in Sidney, NE with Pastor Leon “Bud” Gillespie officiating. Inurnment will be in the Dalton Cemetery at a later date. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday January 18th from 1-6:00 P.M. with family present from 4-6:00. Joseph, the son of Joseph and Gene (Foellmer) Davicco was born on September 26, 1954 in Bridgeport, NE. After the passing of his mother, Joe was adopted by Raymond and Esther Henke of Dalton, NE. He attended High School in Dalton, graduating with the class of 1973. He attended Chadron State College while helping his father on the family farm. Joe also attended WNCC in Sidney, NE enrolling in the railroad program.
Joe met the love of his life, Barbara (Schlesselman) Henke, and they were united in marriage on June 25, 1977. That same year, Joe was hired by the Burlington Northern Railroad in Alliance, where they began their life together. In 1988 they moved back to Dalton to continue to run the family farm after the passing of his father Raymond. In 2006 Joe retired from farming due to his health and enjoyed retirement in Sunol.
Joe’s special interest and hobbies included, hunting, fishing, being outdoors and was a true Husker fan. Joe took many opportunities to cheer them on. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, watching them grow and play in school sports when his health allowed. He also took special interest in helping people and guiding them into becoming better people. He touched many people’s lives with his encouraging words and wisdom.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife Barbara of Sunol; (1) son Kevin Henke and wife Amy of Dalton; (2) daughters; Teresa Lotter and husband Troy of Nebraska City, and Heather Henke of Dalton; (3) sisters; Joe Ellen Stotts of Arvada, CO, Geraldine Wilson of Colorado Springs, CO, and Joyce Bauder of Grand Junction, CO; (1) brother; Dale Henke and friend Mary of Sidney, NE; (4) grandchildren; Drake, Destinee and Zackry Henke, Miranda Bullock and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Gene Davicco, and Raymond and Esther Henke; (1) brother Rick Bauder, his grandparents Ed and Marie Foellmer, Henrey and Stella Henke and George and Laura Young.
