Marjorie M. Nelson, age 90, of Lodgepole, NE went to dance with the angels on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 in Kimball.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 27th in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Lodgepole with PMA Brenda Tophoj and Wayne Fraass officiating. Services will conclude at the church and private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Tuesday from 1-7:00 P.M. to sign Marj’s register book and leave condolences for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marj’s name to the Cancer Foundation. Marjorie Marie From was born March 23, 1928 to Harold David and Hazel Ione From at the family home north of Chappell, NE. She attended Chappell Schools and graduated in 1944 at the age of 16.
Marj married Kenneth Thompson in Lincoln, NE in 1947. Two girls, Maureen Adele and Cynthia Kay were born to this union. After divorcing Kenneth, Marj returned to Lodgepole where she met Keith Peterson (Pete). They were married in 1951. Pete adopted Renie and Cyndie and was forever known as Daddy. Pete and Marj had 3 more children, Patricia Anne, Katherine Ione and Robert Todd. Pete died in 1964.
The five children were blessed with a new father when Marj married Leonard G. Nelson (Art). He helped raise the kids as his own, especially Todd or Skeeter, as he called him.
Marj attended nursing school and spent her early years working at the hospital in Chappell and later at the Chappell Nursing Home, first as a nurse and later as the Activities Director. She also worked in the offices of Dr. Hartsaw, Dr. Keenan and Dr. Nakamura.
After Marj and Art were married, she started a ceramic shop, first in her home, then in a shop shared with her good friend June Yoder. This allowed her to enjoy her artistic talents. In her later years, Marj worked at the First State Bank in Lodgepole and then for Cabela’s customer service in Sidney.
Marj was an outdoor, country lady. She loved gardening, planting flowers, horse activities with her kids and her numerous dogs.
Marj is survived by (4) daughters; Renie McNabb of Chappell, Cyndie and Steve Schwartz of Gering, Pat and Jack Ehlers of Kirby, WY, Kathy and John Buttle of Harrisburg, and (1) son, Todd and Shelley Peterson of Lodgepole; (12) grandchildren, Tami Polichetti, Patrick McNabb, Kerri Zerrenner, Tory Schwartz, Travis Schwartz, Brooke Schwartz, Jaki Martens, Jana Ehlers, Jesi Ehlers, Josh Buttle, Lacy Krakow and Tucker Peterson, (25) great grandchildren and (4) great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by (2) husbands, Pete and Art, her parents Harold and Hazel, (2) brothers and (2) sisters-in-law, Bud and Millie From and Jim and Mary Jo From, (1) sister and (2) brothers-in-law, Jessie June and Louie Helius and Walter Riley, a son-in-law Chuck McNabb and a grandson-in-law C.J. Polichetti, (2) granddaughters, Josephine Marie McNabb and Whitley Ann Peterson, (1) great grandson, Grant Stephen Schwartz and (1) great granddaughter, Shawna Marie Polichetti.
